Join faculty, staff, and students led by Dr. Wes Morris cataloging trees on the Newtown campus. You will learn how to measure and identify a tree. We will be collecting data regarding tree species composition, health, size, diversity, and vulnerability to climate change, with the goal of providing the College with a tool for guiding future planting decisions and ongoing management of our grounds, particularly in the face of a changing climate and other threats to Lexington’s tree canopy.
Meet under the SEC Walkway to begin.

Yoga will be under the trees to the left of the walkway. In case of inclement weather, yoga will be held in the Classroom Building Student Lounge 115.

To encourage the planting of Kentucky native trees for their beauty and versatility, hardiness, disease restitance, high wildlife and pollinator value, and countless other benefits, Pemberton’s Greenhouses in Lexington will offer free, locally grown tree seedlings (Oak and Hickory species) in 1 gallon tree pots, as long as they last or through October 19, whichever comes first. No purchase necessary, limit 1 per household. We will also offer larger (2-3 gallon) native Kentucky trees and shrubs (in stock) on sale. Additionally, we can order native and non-native trees for purchase from our growers in several sizes. Available during business hours. Closed on Sundays.
